E-Med: One Platform From OPD to Discharge
A hospital management platform, web and mobile, covering OPD to admissions, digital prescriptions and billing.
About E-Med
E-Med is a hospital management platform CharPixel built to digitise a hospital's day-to-day operations end to end — outpatient visits, admissions, staff and ward handovers, digital prescriptions and medication, billing, and the laboratory and supply work behind them. It runs as a web platform for hospital staff and administrators alongside mobile apps for doctors and patients, with a built-in public feed where doctors publish health content and patients follow it — a social layer most hospital software leaves out entirely. (E-Med is the name CharPixel uses for this project in its own portfolio; the platform was built for a specific hospital client under its own product name.)
- Covers the full stay: OPD, admissions, nursing handovers, digital prescriptions and medication.
- Departmental modules for billing, supplies, laboratory, staff scheduling and reporting.
- A practice-management app for doctors — schedule, patient records, consultation and referrals.
- A patient-facing mobile app for booking, records and communication with care teams.
- A public social feed where doctors publish health content and patients follow and engage with it.
- Descriptive analytics dashboards for appointments, admissions, revenue and inventory.

What the platform had to solve
A hospital runs on more separate systems than almost any other kind of business — registration, OPD queues, admissions, nursing handovers, pharmacy, billing, lab results — and in most hospitals those systems don't talk to each other, so the same patient information gets re-entered at every desk. E-Med's job was to put the clinical and administrative sides of a hospital's operation into one platform, while giving doctors and patients a public channel to publish and follow health content that most hospital software leaves out entirely.
What made it difficult
Every department, one record
Registration, OPD, admissions, pharmacy, billing and the lab each have their own workflow and their own view of a patient — the platform had to give each department what it needs from a single underlying record rather than nine separate ones.
Clinical software with a public layer
Most hospital systems are closed by design. Adding a feed where doctors publish and patients follow meant drawing a hard line between the social content, which is public, and the clinical record, which absolutely is not.
Two apps, two audiences
A doctor managing a caseload and a patient checking their own records need almost nothing in common from an app — separate mobile experiences had to still share one account and data model underneath.
Operational and clinical data in one set of dashboards
Billing and inventory numbers, and clinical dashboards by department — cardiology, oncology, ophthalmology, endocrinology — had to sit in the same reporting layer without either flattening into the other.
How we approached it
- 01
Unified hospital record
OPD, admissions, handovers, prescriptions and billing built against one patient record, so a department picks up exactly where the last one left off.
- 02
Doctor practice-management app
Schedule and availability, patient health records, consultation notes and inter-department referral in one mobile app for doctors.
- 03
Patient mobile app with a public feed
Booking and personal health records kept private to the patient's account, with a separate public feed for doctor-published content, kept deliberately apart from the clinical record.
- 04
Departmental and clinical dashboards
Revenue, procurement and inventory dashboards for billing and operations, alongside clinical dashboards scoped by specialty, on descriptive analytics built for a senior management view of the hospital.
What the platform does
OPD and admissions
Outpatient registration through to admission and ward handover in one workflow.
Digital prescriptions
Prescriptions and medication issued and tracked digitally rather than on paper.
Billing
Billing across departments consolidated against the same patient and encounter record.
Doctor app
Schedule management, patient records and consultation for doctors on mobile.
Patient app
Booking, personal health records and communication with care teams for patients.
Public health feed
Doctors publish health content that patients can follow, like and comment on.
Descriptive analytics dashboard
Appointments, admissions, staffing and revenue tracked in one reporting view.
Supply and lab management
Inventory, laboratory interfacing and reporting connected to the same operational record.

E-Med: common questions

Tell us what you're building and we'll say whether it's a fit.
Start a project01
What does E-Med cover?
The full clinical and administrative span of a hospital stay — OPD registration, admissions, nursing handovers, digital prescriptions and medication, billing, and the laboratory and supply work behind them — plus staff scheduling and reporting.
02
Is E-Med a web or mobile product?
Both. Hospital staff and administrators work from the web platform; doctors and patients each have their own mobile app, built on the same underlying record.
03
What is the public feed for?
Doctors publish health content — articles, advice, case-style posts — that patients can follow, like and comment on. It's kept structurally separate from the clinical record: public content and private patient data are not the same system.
04
What is E-Med called on the live product?
E-Med is the name CharPixel uses for this project in its own portfolio, since the hospital client's own product name isn't published here. The underlying platform is the same.
